The Holy Monastery of Vatopedi next to the needy

The Holy Monastery of Vatopedi offers 50.000 euros each month to the Archdiocese of Athens to strengthen the soup kitchens of love for our fellow human beings. At the same time, it also helps significantly in the soup kitchens of metropolitan cities throughout Greece by offering thousands of chickens for the daily food of needy parishioners.

So, another act of love from the Holy Monastery began today, after consultation with the dioceses themselves and its desire to contribute to the effort being made to help the Greeks.

Some of the dioceses that receive this important aid and collaborate with the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi for these difficult times that the Greek family is going through are:

The Holy Metropolis of Veria, Neapolis, Eleftheroupolis, Demetrias, Patras, Larissa, Florina.

It is enough to note that 10.000 people from 73 locations in Athens are fed by these soup kitchens of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, while 1500 of our fellow citizens are fed by the central location on Sophocleous Street MONASTERY.

Although it is tragic to think that entire families, children, young people, elderly people and the sick are standing in line for a plate of food in Greece in 2013, the optimistic thing is that in this difficult moment in Greece there is at least the church and the monasteries that do not let their children become impoverished and go hungry.

Here we also remember the words of the God-breathed elder Porphyrios who said: “Difficult times will come and the world will need care from the monasteries.”

These are the moments when a person does not feel MONASTERY, no matter how battered they may be by everyday life and financial problems in times of crisis.

Hunger is one of the worst emotions a person can feel, and that is precisely why the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi, the Archdiocese of Athens, the dioceses and the church in general stand by the person who is in need of basic survival goods.

According to the Bookshop, however, the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi is trying to contribute as much as it is financially allowed to, in the magnificent gesture that is being made towards humanity, thus expressing once again the alms that the fathers are flooded with. It is no coincidence that from the first moment of the crisis they stood by families and institutions, giving them the opportunity to survive and stand on their own feet, despite the difficulties and trials that the Holy Monastery has gone through in recent years.

It is also no coincidence that people in these difficult times need more than ever the care of monasteries and the church not only for their survival but also on a spiritual level.
