"Matthew of Vatopedi: Biography, Works, Musicological Commentaries"

The works of the musicological scientific evening on the topic of Matthew of Vatopedi: Biography, Works, Musicological Comments, integrated into the musical event with the broader title: Monk Matthew of Vatopedi (1774-1849) 170 years since his death, which took place at the Pallas Theater on Bucharest, were successfully carried out.

The proceedings were opened by the Abbot of the Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi, Elder Ephraim, and musicological presentations followed. The first speaker was Achilleas Chaldaiakis, Professor of Musicology and Psaltery, who developed the topic “Matthew of Vatopedi, (1774-1849): the Parrhesiastic among musicians”.

The second part will be followed by an artistic program dedicated to the compositions of Matthew of Vatopedi with performances by renowned Protopsaltes and Byzantine dances.

The scientific evening is coordinated by Konstantinos Dinas, Professor of Linguistics and Protopsaltis.

Present at the Hesperida are the President of the Federation of Cantors, Konstantinos Politis, the academic teachers: Emmanuel Giannopoulos, Balagiorgos Dimitrios, Gregory Anastasiou, Michael Stroumpakis, Official Protopsaltes, including Theodore Vassilikos, Fotis Ketsetzis, George Remoundos, George Demelis, the distinguished Protopsaltes: Akis Liliopoulos, Dimitris Galanis, Ioannis Hasanidis, Michael Zampas, Andreas Ioakeim, Konstantinos Siachos, many clergy, cantors and music lovers and mainly students and students of the art of chanting.

The second speaker was Georgios Konstantinou, of the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, “Matthew of Vatopedi: Between old and new methods. A valuable guide to chanting” and the last speaker was Konstantinos Lanaras, MSc in Musicology, who presented the topic: “Doxastarium Apostichon,-Panegiriki: the musical talent of Matthew of Vatopedi”.
