Patitiri-rakario

Near the large cistern and the seat of Agios Artemios is the impressive building of the wine press and rakario. It is an elongated rectangular two-story building, approximately 40 meters long, which is divided into two sections. To the east is the wine press, where the grapes were pressed, and to the west is the rakario on the ground floor and a worker's house on the upper floor. The building was built in 1901, thus replacing the wine presses that until the end of the 19th century operated together with the vathouse inside the Monastery. The high location on which the newer wine press was built facilitated the easy drainage of the must to the vathouse through underground pipes. The rakario, which retains its equipment intact, has recently been reopened.
