Archimandrite Dionysios of Vatopedi
15.12.2017
Dionysios served as prior of the Vatopedi Monastery, exarch of Iași and abbot of the Golia Monastery (1839-1853) as well as commissioner of the Community of Mount Athos in Constantinople in the early years of the 19th century. During the suppression of the Revolution of 1821, the Vatopedi fathers, in their attempt to suppress the anger and wrath of the Agarenes against the Monastery, because it apparently supported the Revolution, were forced, at the instigation of Dionysios, to hand over part of the treasures of the sacristy to them. However, later, thanks to the efforts of Dionysios, the sacristy was renewed with new valuable objects, while some damaged ones were also preserved.
