Metropolitan Gregory of Adrianople
15.12.2017
Gregory was from Neochori, Constantinople, and was the brother of the New Martyr Theodore of Byzantium. He studied in Constantinople, studied Byzantine music, and rose to the rank of Grand Archdeacon (1813-1818). He served as Metropolitan of Tiberias and Stromnitsa (1818-1830) and later of Adrianople (1830-1840). After his resignation from the episcopal throne, he retired to the Vatopedi Monastery, where he lived the last twenty years of his life (until 1860), financially supporting various works of the Monastery and composing liturgical texts. Gregory's collection of manuscripts and printed materials is today in the Monastery, as is his seal.
