09.05.2011
The central theme of the copper engraving is the transfer of the Holy Belt to St. Thomas (Oral tradition) during the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (« The Holy Belt »). In its lower part, the building complex of the Vatopedi Monastery appears as a secondary theme. On either side of this representation there are two columns of text related to the depicted theme. A verse in the lower frame of the composition informs us that it was «engraved in copper» in 1817 by the painter Nikolaos Chios.
