Epitrachelion with the Dodecaortus, 15th century.

The epitrachelion depicts scenes from the Twelve Apostles in circles and four scenes borrowed from the Passion and Resurrection (the Latin theme of the Flagellation, the Dragging, the Myrrh-Bearers and Thomas). On the neck, Christ is depicted as the Great High Priest. The space between the medals is completed by flower-bearing crosses in circles and stylized dragon heads, while the lower part of the vestment is decorated with geometric shapes. The scenes are accompanied by unspelled Greek inscriptions. The compositions are embroidered on the blue fabric with silver wire and thread, while colored silks were used for the faces and objects, which create beautiful iridescence. The work dates back to the 15th century. It was probably manufactured in a workshop in Moldova, while its origin from the Greek region should not be ruled out.
