The frescoes of the inner narthex
11.05.2011
The inner narthex (midnight) of the catholicon is covered with frescoes from 1760. Recent research has proven the existence of an older layer of paintings, the extent of which under the modern layer remains unknown. Only two full-length figures, of Christ and Saint Phocas, were revealed, which are associated with the layer of frescoes from the 12th century and overpaintings from 1312.
