Mural of the main church of the catholicon with the representation of the Transfiguration, year 1312 (the lower part of the composition)

The composition of the Transfiguration of Christ is depicted in the upper zone of the southern arch of the catholicon. The upper part of the scene with Christ and the prophets belongs to a newer layer of painting, while the apostles to the original layer of 1312. The apostles are depicted with lively movements, as they tumble down the slopes of Mount Tabor, terrified by the Transfiguration of the Lord. Characteristic is the soft shaping of the faces and the white line that defines the outer contour of Peter's face, with the aim of detaching it from the flat surface and distinguishing it from the adjacent figures.
