Double-faced encolpion with representations of Christ Pantocrator and Saint Demetrius, 14th century

The gold encolpion has the form of a medal (diameter 3,6 cm). It consists of two cast circular plates, welded and joined in their center with a nail, which was probably added at a later time, as were the stones that adorn its perimeter. The encolpion is decorated on both its surfaces with elaborate representations. On the main face, a bust of Christ Pantocrator is depicted, framed by the abbreviations "ΙC-ΧC", who holds a closed Gospel and blesses with his right hand. On the back face, Saint Demetrius is depicted full-length and frontally, in military uniform and equipment. The Saint is framed by a large-letter inscription, on the basis of which the figure is identified. Both representations are described by a series of elaborate moments.
