Holy Martyr Tryphon (1/2)

Saint Tryphon was born in Lampsano in Phrygia during the reign of King Gordian. From a young age, his occupation was herding geese. However, the lowly nature of his work did not deprive him, but rather increased his spiritual knowledge through sublime humility and complete love for Christ, and while still young he was deemed worthy to perform miraculous things.

Among many others, he also healed the daughter of King Gordianus who was tormented by an evil spirit. In fact, he not only cast it out of the daughter but also forced it, through the Grace of Christ, to manifest itself visibly before them as a wild dog. After this, many embraced Christianity.

Later he was brought before the governor of the East, Aquilinus, where he confessed his faith and received the stigmata of Christ on his body. He endured many tortures. He was beaten with wooden swords, tied to wild horses and dragged to inaccessible places and his sides were burned with burning candles. Finally, he was beheaded and entered the Heavenly tabernacles wearing a crown. It should be noted that Saint Tryphon is considered the patron saint of gardeners and farmers.
