Saint Gerasimos Pallas († January 15, 1714)

He was born in the village of Skillous in Pedia, Crete. He learned his first letters from his father Theodore, protopope and preacher in Chania, and went to study in Corfu and Venice. In addition to Greek, he knew Latin and Hebrew. He taught and preached in the Peloponnese, Ioannina, Arta and Paramythia.

He served as Metropolitan of Kastoria and Adrianople (from 1686). In 1688 he was elected Patriarch of Alexandria and after a fruitful patriarchate of 22 years he retired to the Vatopedi Monastery, where he reposed in peace in January 1714. His official canonization was carried out by the Patriarchate of Alexandria in 2002 and his memory is honored on January 15.
