He was of Vatopedi, established in Karyes and Protos of Mount Athos at the time of the attempt to impose the unification plans of Emperor Michael VIII Palaiologos and Patriarch John Vekkos.
For his resistance to these plans, he was hanged in the Skete of Kareon. His memory is celebrated on December 5th.
