"Thus we proclaim, Christ our true God": The Sunday of Orthodoxy at the Vatopedi Orthodox Monastery
The Sunday of Orthodoxy was celebrated this year (Great Lent 2026) in all local Churches. In accordance with the ecclesiastical order, the triumph of Orthodoxy was also celebrated in the Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi. The Eucharistic Synaxis and the Litany of the Holy Icons and Holy Relics were presided over by the Abbot of the Monastery of Elder Ephraim, flanked by the fathers of the Vatopedi Brotherhood and other Athonite hieromonks and clergy. The Holy Procession is held every year on Orthodoxy Sunday in commemoration of the restoration of icons in Constantinople, which was established by Empress Theodora, her son Michael III, and Patriarch Methodius of Constantinople, in 843 AD.
