THE TEACHING OF BYZANTINE MUSIC ON MOUNT ATHON
LESSONS OF ELDER DIONYSIOS FIRFIRIS
WAR MUSEUM, JUNE 17, 2024, TIME: 8:30 p.m.
The Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi is presenting the publication entitled, “The Teaching of Byzantine Music on Mount Athos – Lessons of Elder Dionysios Firfiris” on Monday, June 17 at 8:30 p.m. at the War Museum of Athens. The highly musical and melancholic, blessed Elder Dionysios Firfiris, with his rich charisma, “characterized” and “highlighted” the genuine Athonite chanting style, for the benefit of the music-loving public and especially the chanters of the Holy Analogion and those who study Byzantine Music.

This publication, which is essentially lessons (variation and member) given by the blessed Fr. Dionysios to Athonite monks, which are delivered, with the help of technology, is an innovative action through video (musical notation) and sound (orality) in every tone, every step of the journey of the musical compositions-lessons of Fr. Dionysios Firfiris.
It is a valuable and unique tool in the initiation of those interested, with the dual approach to hymns, through variation and melodic. This pioneering and magnificent pedagogical method ceases to be a simple “method without a teacher”: in the Lessons taught here, both the vision and hearing of the interested party operate simultaneously and step by step (character by character). Musical composition is approached simultaneously with image and sound, with writing and orality, with marking and chanting; step by step, tone by tone and in all temporal aspects, providing the possibility of deepening in the idioms of sound but also in the how and why of musical expression and intervals.
Admission is free. The publication (book and digital USB card) with the videos of musical compositions-lessons by Fr. Dionysios Firfiris will be distributed FREE of charge.
