Metropolitan Gregory of Laodicea

The previous Gregory of Vatopedi served as abbot of the Golia Monastery and first abbot of the Monastery of Saint Nicholas of Myra in Romania (1689-present).

In 1669 he was ordained titular metropolitan of Laodicea and assumed the management of the Vatopedi estates in Moldavia until 1693.

Gregory benefited Vatopedi with the construction and fresco painting of the chapel of Paramythia in 1678 and with the donation of precious vestments, utensils and manuscripts.

The Monastery today preserves, among other things, Gregory's epitrachelion, a gift from the daughter of the ruler Vasilios Lupos, and manuscripts written (possibly decorated) by him in 1668 and 1669.
