The Tower of Transfiguration
The architect Plutarchos Theocharides speaks of the Tower of the Transfiguration. The tower is originally a 12th century construction, perhaps even older, that has undergone many renovations. There is no doubt that the impressive building of the Tower of the Transfiguration is a monument of great importance in Athonite architecture, since it is a very important example of Byzantine fortifications, but in addition, with its continuous habitation, it also preserves elements of monastic architecture, as it was shaped in more recent years. The Tower of the Transfiguration is located at the highest point of the enclosure, at the southern peak of the approximately triangular shape of the monastery's plan. It is the highest Tower in the Monastery, with a height of approximately 29m. from the courtyard.
