The infinite gifts that flow from the vacuity of God the Word moved those God-loving souls who had artistic and spiritual sensitivity, to render, with the help of divine Grace, through lines and colors, scenes from the incarnate economy of Christ, as well as figures of the Theotokos and the saints of our Church.

Icons serve as mediators between the depicted persons and those praying. Thus a bond, a relationship is established. The honor towards the icon, towards the original, passes through, as Basil the Great would say, but the icon also transmits the divine state of its original; the grace of the original is found within it.
